Another personal favorite~ Pig-Tails for Long Hair

2013 is less than an hour away!

Happy New Year, everybody!

While I'm sitting here waiting for the clock to strike, I thought I would post another of my personal favorite hairstyles~ pig-tails for really long hair!  I have so many pictures and a hard time deciding which ones to leave out~ maybe I'll just post them all...

(Not quite all...believe it or not I did leave a couple out :-)

Thanks for dropping by, and I hope you have a wonderful start to the new year! I guess this will be my last post for 2012...

Easy Lace Rope Braided Updo

Hello everybody,

Happy New Year in advance!  Only a few days left in 2012...

I was in a rush this morning and wanted to fix my hair in a pretty yet easy style.  So I did two rope lace braids and braided them together in an English braid, then put that into a braided bun.  Here are some pictures of my finished look:

I first learned how to do this lace braid from a braid book that someone sent me years ago. It had black-and-white pictures of a girl doing different French braids and buns, and other simple hairstyles. When I make these lace rope braids, I take a small section of hair from one side above my eye, and divide it into two equal sections.  Then I take the outer-most section and bring it up and over the inner-most section. The inner-most section is now on the outside, so I add a little hair to that and bring it up and over, etc....

The trick is to keep the first lace braid from unraveling while I'm making the second braid. To do this, I keep braiding the rope braid even after I've stopped adding more hair, until it's long enough for me to hold the end of the braid in my...mouth, actually!

Thanks for stopping by!

Circle French Braid

The girls in Russia certainly know how to braid hair! I discovered this video on YouTube today and would so love to try it out. I'll have to see what I can do...

In the past I've tried a similar look~

Now to figure out how to do the double version...

Length picture~ animated with Lunapic

Hello!

2013 is just a few days away~ I hope you're having a fun week-between-Christmas-and-New-Year's.

A friend told me about Lunapic.com, an on-line picture editing website, so I took a look for myself. It is mesmerizing! You'll have to visit when you get time~ I was amazed at all the different picture effects and animations they have available. Not only that, but it's free and easy to use!

I tried the rolling animation effect on this collage hair length picture (taken this summer):

There are so many other effects to try out~ this is one of the more basic choices. Just in case you're getting dizzy, I'll upload the original picture with no animation. I don't want to make anyone sea-sick!

Thank you for dropping by to look at my pictures. I hope you have a good night and a fun New Year's!

Waterfall Braided Updo~ my Christmas Day hairstyle

Merry Christmas!

We had such a great Christmas Day, celebrating with friends and family. I hope your day was as special and memorable as mine was~ and full of good food, too!

I had a new Christmas dress (picture below) and wanted to fix my hair in a style that would match. So I tried a waterfall braid with a braided bun. Following the steps that I learned from Lilith Moon's video, I made a waterfall braid but zig-zagged it from one side of my head to the other, and then back again. In a waterfall braid you leave one of the main pieces out of your braid. I would add these left-over sections of hair into the lower levels of the braid. I hope this makes sense! Doing this created a basket-weave effect~ here are some pictures so you can hopefully see what I mean:

How did I keep all the sections straight, you ask? I used the double-mirror trick~ our bathroom has a mirror over the sink and a mirror on the front of the door, so I can stand in front of one and see the back of my head in the other. Very handy, no pun intended. :-)

Thanks so much for looking! I hope the rest of your Christmas week is filled with fun times and new, good memories for years to come.

2013 is almost here!

My Hair Care Routine & Favorite Products

Hi everybody!

A lot of folks have asked about my hair care routine and my favorite hair care products, so I decided to write a post on this topic.

I have always had long hair, since I was a little girl.  I keep my hair trimmed across the bottom, because I prefer this straight look to fairy tale ends. I also think that keeping your hair hemline even helps your hair look longer and thicker. Of course, there are exceptions~ watch Lord of the Rings! Eowyn and Arwen have beautiful fairy tale ends (not to mention the elves! lol)

I usually wash my hair twice a week, on Tuesday night and again on Saturday night. I use the Condition-Wash-Condition method that I learned from the LHC. All that means is that you condition the length of your hair first to protect it, then shampoo only the top.  Rinse all this out, then condition the length again. I never put conditioner on my roots, because I've found this makes more hair come out when I comb it.  I try to always use cool/cold water on my hair, because I found out from the LHC that hot water can damage hair.

I like to wrap my wet hair in a t-shirt instead of a towel.  I used to have trouble with towel lint causing little tangles in my hair, but no more!  Drying my wet hair with a t-shirt also helps to reduce frizz, and makes my hair easier to comb out.

I comb my hair out using a wide tooth comb that I've had for years.  I never use a brush except on my bangs. I also wash my bangs every morning and blow-dry them (I know some folks on the LHC are against this, but I confess I do it!)

When I'm combing out my wet hair, I like to use Johnson & Johnson's No More Tears detangling spray.  Sometimes I use Frizz Ease products.  They have great detangling spray, smoothing cream, and hair serum.  I only use these on my wet hair.

I wash my hair at night so it can air-dry.

My favorite shampoo and conditioner brand is Herbal Essences.  I like to mix it up and use different versions.  Some of my favorite sets are the "Honey I'm Strong" and the "Touchably Smooth."

Another secret~ we have a water catchment system so I wash my hair in rain water.  I think this makes a big difference! My hair stays healthy and doesn't get dry like it does when I'm traveling and have to use the city water.

Finally, if you want your hair to grow long and strong quickly~ eat a spoonful of peanut butter every day!  This will work wonders!  I like to have a Slim-Fast milkshake for breakfast and supper, and put my spoonful of peanut butter in the blender.  The result is a delicious peanut butter/chocolate milkshake~ not unlike a Reese's Pieces peanut butter cup!

I hope these ideas are a help! If you have any secrets you'd like to share, please do!  Just leave them in a comment below.

Braid Waves

Hey everybody,

Merry Christmas Eve-Eve! I hope you are having a lovely holiday season with family and friends. Thanks for dropping by to view more posts on my hair website. I thought since I say "super long hair" I should upload a few length pictures.

So, here are some pictures of braid waves taken on vacation in Hawaii a few months ago:

Later this morning, I put my hair up in this style, which is actually another go-to hairstyle for me:

Merry Christmas! God bless us, every one!

Dutch Lace Braid~ my look for today

Thanks to Lilith Moon's new video shown here:

I had the idea to try out a Dutch lace braid today.  This is no where near as lovely as Lilith's look, but maybe I can try to do this exact same hairstyle later.

I do like a Dutch lace braid~ it's a smooth and easy way to dress up your hair!  Especially when you want to put it up in a bun, like I did today.  Here are some pictures~ Wimsey wanted his picture taken, too. He got a Christmas bath this morning so he's all nice and camera-ready!

Thanks for looking! Remember to check back often for new looks and hairstyles. I hope you're having a very Merry Christmas Eve-Eve-Eve!

Did you know that your Baby Boy
has come to make you new?

will soon deliver you...
Mary, did you know?"
